During his retirement Peter Daetz, together with his wife Marlene, came up with the idea of opening an international centre for wood-carved sculpture in Lichtenstein, a small town near Chemnitz.
In his career the benefactor had travelled all four corners of the globe, and today there are 700 primarily contemporary works from all over the world on display in Lichtenstein, offering insights into wood carvers' rituals, customs and techniques. The exhibition is housed in the Electoral Palace near Lichtenstein Castle.
