The people of Bremen are proud of their fairytale animals (a donkey, dog, cat and rooster), which are as much an emblem of the city as the town hall and Roland statue, a joint UNESCO World Heritage site. A survey confirmed just how strongly the city and its fairytale are linked in people's minds: nearly a third of Germans spontaneously thought of the Town Musicians when asked about Bremen. This quartet of creatures can be spotted in many different forms in statues all over the city – and on Sundays between May and October they tell their fable live and in full colour on the cathedral square.
