From a distance it may look like architectural finesse, but as you get closer you can see it's elaborate paintwork. In many towns and villages in Upper Bavaria, houses are adorned with traditional Lüftl murals that depict a wide variety of enchanting scenes. In the 18th century, a painter by the name of Franz Seraph Zwink brought enormous skill to this art form, and soon became the definitive Lüftl artist of the Oberammergau region. You can still see some of his murals in places such as Oberammergau.
