Walsrode Bird Park – family fun with feathered friends

Walsrode Bird Park in Lüneburg Heath is one of the biggest bird parks in the world and enjoys international renown – because of its many birds that you won't see in any other zoo in the world, and because it has been the first to successfully breed certain species in captivity.

Leave your everyday cares behind and try something a little different – a journey through an authentic jungle world at Walsrode Bird Park, perhaps? You'll be amazed and astonished by some 4,200 birds spanning 675 different species from nearly every continent, climate zone and habitat. The park features walk-in halls with different themes, tropical halls and indoor aviaries as well as huge outdoor enclosures, ponds and aviaries. Inside the tropical forest hall you can see exotic birds flying freely above your head, plus unusual cultural artefacts from Indonesia. Other must-sees here include the huge free-flight hall for large tropical birds, the mesmerising flight shows out on the lawn, and the Australian-themed Toowoomba with its flocks of free-flying lori parrots. The indoor animal show is both funny and informative, and provides a great opportunity to see sugar gliders, iguanas and fruit bats at close quarters. The bird park is set within extensive and beautiful parkland, with hundreds of different trees, shrubs and flowers in bloom all year round. The park's excellent restaurants and snack stands offer some unusual experiences, including at the glass-fronted Rosencafé where you can watch birds in full flight.

Spectacular flying displays, informative feeding sessions with penguins, pelicans, flamingos and vultures, a look through the glass walls of the baby bird station, the medieval 'eagle owl' castle with its mysterious owls, the hummingbird house, a giant adventure playground, a treehouse village at dizzying heights and a water playground – if that weren't enough the park also offers a whole host of fantastic special events and activities for school groups, etc. Walsrode Bird Park is an absolute must for families with children!
