The majority of Krefeld’s city centre lies clearly and compactly nestled between four green streets encompassing the old city walls. The former high street of medieval Krähenfeld – the high street between Südwall and Rheinstraße - has today been developed into a traffic-calmed shopping zone. The slightly curved shopping precinct that crosses the Neumarkt forms the city center's main artery. The Königstraße, enclosed since 2000, runs parallel to it. The 520 meter-long illuminated glass roof ensures enjoyable shopping even in the rain. All in all, with the short distances between its brand-name boutiques, specialist shops and shopping centres, Krefeld is an attractive city for shopping.
