Brandhorst Museum Munich

The impressive collection on display at the Brandhorst Museum includes more than 1,200 works produced by international artists between the late 1950s and the present day.

Located right next door to the Pinakothek der Moderne, the Brandhorst Museum has been home to a stunning ensemble of contemporary art since 2009, making it the newest partner of the Bavarian State Painting Collections. Work phases by talented artists from the second half of the 20th century and by representatives of contemporary art from around the world make this huge collection of more than 1,000 works of art stand out from the crowd. The artwork on display at the museum used to be part of Udo and Anette Brandhorst's private collection.

The museum has two clear focal points. First of all, the collection includes more than 170 paintings, drawings, sculptures and photographs by American artist Cy Twombly (1928–2011), making this the most in-depth look at his work to appear outside of the USA. Then there are more than 100 pieces by pioneering Pop Art protagonist Andy Warhol, offering a panorama of his work that is bound to surpass any similar display in the whole of Europe. No end of other masterpieces make this collection even more special and broaden its scope. Opening times: Every day: 10 am–6 pm, Thursday: 10 am–8 pm
