Württemberg is known for the sheer diversity of its grape varieties. In fact, it is one of the very few places that Lemberger and Trollinger are cultivated. Many of the new varieties that have helped make a name for German viniculture originated in Württemberg.

For example, Dornfelder, which is now cultivated across Germany, was originally a product of Württemberg and "new" red wine varieties Acolon, Cabernet Dorio, Cabernet Mitos and Cabernet Dorsa are currently being planted.

The Neckar Valley is at the heart of the region, boasting a sheltered climate. But Württemberg vines are also grown in the valleys of many tributaries of the River Neckar and by Lake Constance. Visitors travelling by car can explore the region by following the Württemberg Wine Route.

Main grape varieties: Trollinger, Riesling, Pinot Meunier, Lemberger and Pinot Noir, with Samtrot and Pinot Madeleine (Clevner) as specialities
