Haithabu Viking Museum Busdorf

The Haithabu Viking Museum – just outside Schleswig – is among the foremost archaeological museums in Germany.

Situated at the edge of the Vikings' former trade hub, the museum is home to one of the most innovative archaeological exhibitions in Europe. Fascinating original artefacts, a representative dwelling of seven faithfully reproduced Viking houses and state-of-the-art multimedia displays transport visitors back to early urban life some 1,000 years ago.

The museum's big screen shows two videos about the Viking world several times a day – one is aimed specifically at children and the other is suitable for the whole family. Back in the real world, visitors can tread the boardwalks between wattle-and-daub houses plastered with clay and walk in the Vikings' footsteps on the jetty in the port. This is an experience for all the senses! A jam-packed programme of events featuring live demonstrations of traditional handicrafts and markets brings the Viking world to life on a regular basis. Opening times: From 1 April 2020: Tuesday to Sunday 9 am–6 pm. Please note that the museum is closed during the winter months. Please visit the museum's website for further information.
