The Ahr wine-growing area near Bonn is known for its bizarre rocky landscapes, narrowly meandering river, great red wines – and, of course, Steinheuer's "Zur Alten Post" restaurant. Together with his wife, Hans Stefan Steinheuer has turned his parent's guesthouse in Bad Neuenahr-Heppingen into one of the most renowned fine dining addresses in Germany. The reputation of this peaceful district of just 800 or so residents has now spread beyond the region's borders.
Steinheuer uses harmonising spices to combine seemingly contradictory notes in balanced and integrated dishes. This perfectly balanced approach goes beyond the spices in the Michelin-starred chef's restaurant. The wine and its interaction with the other components of the cuisine at Zur Alten Post also plays a major role.
