The Hirschen restaurant in Sulzburg in the southern Black Forest is one of those places you always hope to come across, but in reality very rarely find. A small family-run restaurant and hotel that prides itself on its sense of tradition and relaxed atmosphere and is devoted to pleasure and good times. Here, Head Chef Douce Steiner offers diners modern interpretations of seasonally inspired French haute cuisine.
Her apprenticeship began under her father, Hans-Paul Steiner, who earned two Michelin stars for the Hirschen. She then went on to hone her skills in France, her mother's homeland. After spells in different dining establishments, she returned to the family business. Her mother Claude still advises diners on the perfect wine choice to accompany their meals, with a preference for regional varieties from the Markgräflerland area.
