The German Democratic Republic opened its borders to West Germany on 9 November 1989. Less than eleven months later, the fall of the Berlin Wall brought about German reunification on 3 October 1990. These historic events not only allowed East Germans to travel the world, but millions of international tourists could now also experience and explore the natural beauty and culture of the former GDR. Over the last 30 years, the choice of attractions and experiences available to visitors to Germany has grown enormously.
