Destination Germany 30 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall: Autostadt & Hannover
To this day, the Trabant car remains a symbol of the former East Germany. Now, 30 years after the fall of the Wall, Autostadt in Wolfsburg represents a new dimension in our fascination with cars. Its innovative interactive exhibition is simply unmissable, and if you love futuristic architecture, you won’t be disappointed. As @lerichti discovered, Hannover also has plenty to please those with an eye for architecture.
CAR TOWERS AT AUTOSTADT.
The car towers are the emblems of Autostadt. @lerichti visited and photographed these fully automated storage facilities, which ensure the delivery of around 500 vehicles per day. Don’t the towers make for a great photo opportunity?
AUTOSTADT’S SCENT TUNNEL.
The scent tunnel is a work by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson that brings together art, nature and technology. As visitors to Autostadt pass through the tunnel, specially selected plants envelop them in the most wonderful scents.
The brands of the Volkswagen Group are showcased in various pavilions. The unique architecture of these buildings provides the perfect backdrop for presenting the brands, as @lerichti captured on camera in the Porsche pavilion, for example.
Not far from Autostadt is the Phaeno Science Centre in Wolfsburg, where you can discover and experience a whole host of phenomena on the various exhibition levels designed by star architect Zaha Hadid. Needless to say, the architecture in itself is worth a visit!
You can also find some magnificent buildings in Hannover. @lerichti and a friend went on a photowalk through the city and captured some of its impressive architecture.
Herford & Münster
If you just can’t get enough architecture, why not extend your visit with further stops in nearby Münster or Herford?
