Science Center Spectrum – a world of exciting experiments

This newly opened state-of-the-art science centre in Berlin is part of the neighbouring Museum of Technology. It offers a world of wonders for people who love discovery and experimentation. Suitable for children aged five and above.

The Spectrum Science Centre features a whole host of hands-on experiments for all ages that shed light on physics, technology and perception. Its four floors, eight themed sections and more than 150 interactive stations will draw you into the exciting world of science and technology. The experiments are focused mainly on fundamental fields of physics: optics, mechanics and radioactivity are just some of the many subject areas that are explored. However, there are also experiments that touch on aspects of mathematics, communications, astronomy and other related sciences. Themes such as 'Light and vision', 'Electricity and magnetism' and 'Music and sounds' get you to creatively engage with light surfaces and colours – for example through an indoor, water-free rainbow – as well as with electricity, waves, sound phenomena and perception. There is also a Foucault pendulum, a house of illusion and a hall of mirrors.

Highlights

Why is the sky blue? Can you 'see' heat? Why don't planes drop out of the sky? These are just some of many questions answered by the Spectrum Science Centre. This interactive attraction, which offers a broad range of experiments, has little in common with conventional museums. Visitors of all ages will enjoy exploring these puzzling and astonishing phenomena, which are fundamental for an understanding of science and technology. Here, you do the experiments. Try out different approaches, change the conditions. Become a scientist yourself.
