Holiday spirits ride high in the Allgäu High Alps in the southernmost corner of Germany on the border with Austria. Many endangered species of plants and animals have found a safe haven here, providing nature photographers with stunning shots and hikers with plenty of opportunity to see the diverse flora and fauna up close on the many trails and routes. Whether you're tired out from trying to take the perfect photo or cover as many kilometres as possible, you can always refuel at one of the traditional dairies known for their Allgäu mountain cheese. This is high-level indulgence – quite literally!

The Allgäu High Alps Nature Reserve is a holiday destination that comes in a different colour scheme depending on the time of year. During the winter months, white snowy landscapes are just waiting to be explored in snowshoes, on skis or on a sled. As spring approaches, you'll almost turn green with jealousy when you look out over the rolling hills of the fresh alpine meadows, which are covered with bright bursts of rare flowers during the summer. This sea of colour is dotted with the unavoidable black, brown and white of the cows whose milk is used to produce the gorgeous mountain cheese that shines in a lovely shade of yellow. You can enjoy the taste of this local delicacy in front of a roaring fire in one of the traditional cottages in the autumn months. We've painted quite the picture of holiday perfection there, haven't we?
