The Romantic Road spans about 400 kilometres from Würzburg to Füssen in the Allgäu, where a veritable treasure trove awaits.

The Romantic Road has it all – nature, culture and friendly hospitality. It ticks all the boxes for art fanatics, festivalgoers, party animals, history buffs and sporty types without discrimination. It's impossible not to marvel at the varied cultural landscapes between the River Main, the Franconian wine region and the Alpine peaks. On the way between Würzburg and Füssen, the route crosses the charming Tauber Valley, the geological hotspot of Nördlinger Ries, the picturesque Lechfeld and the idyllic Pfaffenwinkel region at the foot of the Alps in Upper Bavaria, which is home to the Wieskirche Pilgrimage Church.

The route finishes in style at King Ludwig's fairytale castles, which are surrounded by four lakes against the backdrop of the Ammergau Alps Nature Reserve. The Romantic Road is also known for being Germany's top destination for festivals. From May until well into autumn, there is plenty of chance to enjoy fine wine and tasty beer at open-air historical festivals. Celebrations take place at beautiful original locations, where indulgence is the order of the day.
