Itinerary: Explore Germany’s Architectural Past

Go on a discovery of your German heritage and relive the emigrants’ historic journey to the New World. Further learn about important German personalities who influenced architecture and arts around the world.

  • Day 1, Hamburg:
    Sight-see on a red double-decker bus and take a harbor boat trip with Barkassen-Meyer, then stay the night in Hamburg.
  • Day 2, Hamburg:
    Visit the BallinStadt Emigration Museum, then take a guided walking tour through Elbphilharmonie Plaza in HafenCity. Make sure to stop at Speicherstadt and Kontorhaus District with Chilehaus, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stay the night in Hamburg.
  • Day 3, Dessau:
    Head to Dessau and learn about Bauhaus design at the Bauhaus building and Masters’ Houses, then walk around the city park before exploring the Bauhaus Museum within it. Take a lunch break at the Kornhaus before checking out the Törten Housing Estate and the Arbeitsamt, the historical employment center. If you’ve had your fill of Bauhaus, wander the Georgium Palace and park before checking out the Technical Museum and the Umweltbundesamt, the federal environmental agency. Take in the views from the Räucherturm, the smoking tower, or a city window at the river Mulde. Stay the night in Dessau.
  • Day 4, Berlin:
    Drive to Berlin to visit the Bode Museum, Altes Museum and Berlin Cathedral Church. Spend the night in Berlin.
  • Day 5, Berlin:
    Wake up and wander the Gendarmenmarkt before checking out the Brandenburger Tor and the Oberbaum Bridge.
