Viewing plateau of the Saarburg castle complex

Burganlage Saarburg (EIKE DUBOIS)

The remains of SaarBurg Castle are enthroned high above the Saar. The castle was considered one of the oldest and most beautiful hilltop castles in the west and is both the town's landmark and namesake. Due to its strategically favorable location, Saarburg Castle was always fiercely contested and was often attacked and destroyed. The castle complex is freely accessible. In the evening, the castle lighting provides an atmospheric backdrop high above the town.
