In 2026, Germany celebrates ten UNESCO World Heritage anniversaries – from Romanesque architecture in Speyer and Roman heritage in Trier to Bauhaus architecture, industrial heritage, ancient beech forests and Jewish history along the Rhine. The year 2027 shines a spotlight on three authors who have shaped Germany’s literary heritage far beyond its borders: Heinrich Heine, Hermann Hesse, and Günter Grass. Their anniversary years connect major works with formative places in their lives, leading to Düsseldorf, the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, the Black Forest, Lake Constance, and Lübeck.

From 23 April to 17 October 2027, the International Garden Exhibition (IGA) will open its gates in the Ruhr region. What is taking shape here is much more than a flower show: under the guiding theme “How do we want to live tomorrow?”, the metropolitan region will present ideas and projects for urban development, open spaces and parks on an international stage.
