The Hansa coking plant is a testimony to glowing times. The coking plant began operations in 1928 and at times during its history was one of the largest coking plants in the Ruhr region. It knew no standstill and met the incredible demand of numerous steel mills that needed the coke to produce pig iron. At peak times, the Hansa coking plant produced up to 5200 tons of coke a day. Today, visitors are treated to a captivating sight on the grounds of the Hansa coking plant. Tall towers stretch skyward. Gigantic machines everywhere, steel dinosaurs of the industrial age. And in the midst of it all, nature seems to rise again.
