Youth Hostel Stralsund

DJH Youth Hostel Stralsund has 199 beds in 51 rooms and several buildings. Two new bed houses opened in 2015, the lower floor, which is completely wheelchair accessible, each with four guest rooms with private bathrooms and a common room. The total bed capacity for wheelchair users is 24 in 13 rooms. The youth hostel is located on the Devin peninsula at the gates of the Hanseatic city - idyllic in nature and yet very close to the highlights of the UNESCO World Heritage City. The swimming area with a sandy beach right next to the youth hostel is mated by the city in summer and is accessible by wheelchair.

  • There is a signposted parking space for people with disabilities at the youth hostel (parking space size 350 cm x 500 cm).
  • The distance from the car park to the entrance is 32 m.
  • The path from the car park to the entrance is easy to walk and drive on due to its surface quality.
  • The sidewalk along the bus stop (distance to the entrance 300 m) is 350 cm wide and has a maximum longitudinal inclination of 7 %, the path is not easy to walk and drive on due to its surface quality. There are no seats available at the stop.
  • The entrance can be reached stepless via a 3 cm high threshold.
  • The reception counter is 106 cm high. There is no equivalent communication possibility in a sitting position (but this is being planned)
  • All evaluated doors and passages are at least 90 cm wide.
  • There are no revolving doors.
  • All evaluated rooms available to the guest are accessible at ground level or via a ramp
  • There are no wheelchair accessible tables in the dining room (according to the operator, new wheelchair accessible tables are purchased).

Room 801 A with sanitary room in house 8 A (multi-bedroom)

  • The manoeuvring spaces in the sleeping area are 141 cm x 183 cm in front of essential immobile furnishings and 200 cm x 212 cm to the left of the bed. On the right the bed stands next to the wall.
  • The bed is not wheelchair accessible.
  • A nursing bed cannot be provided.
  • The manoeuvring spaces in the sanitary room are:
    in front of/behind the door and in front of the toilet 170 cm x 147 cm,
    in front of the washbasin 170 cm x 236 cm,
    to the left of the toilet 184 cm x 70 cm, to the right 35 cm x 70 cm.
  • On the right side of the toilet there is a handle which can be folded up, on the left side there is no handle.
  • The shower area at ground level is 150 cm x 150 cm. A shower chair and horizontal handles are available.
  • The washbasin is wheelchair compatible and the mirror can be seen while standing or sitting.

Room 3 with sanitary rooms in house 5 (multi-bedrooms)

  • The manoeuvring spaces in the sleeping area are in front of essential immobile furnishings and to the left of the bed at least 150 cm x 150 cm, on the right the bed stands next to the wall.
  • The bed is not wheelchair accessible.
  • A nursing bed cannot be provided.
  • Shower and toilet are accommodated in 2 separate rooms.
  • The manoeuvring spaces in the toilet are:
    in front of/behind the door, in front of the toilet and the washbasin at least 150 cm x 150 cm,
    on the left next to the toilet 94 cm x 73 cm, on the right 39 cm x 73 cm.
  • There are handles on both sides of the toilet that can be folded up.
  • The washbasin is wheelchair compatible and the mirror can be seen while standing and sitting.
  • In the shower room the manoeuvring spaces in front of/behind the door and in front of the washbasin are at least 150 cm x 150 cm. The shower area at ground level is 170 cm x 211 cm. A shower chair and horizontal handles are available.
  • The washbasin is wheelchair compatible and the mirror can be seen while standing or sitting.

  • In the dining room there are tables where there are no lamps that restrict the visual field. Seating areas with low background noises are available.
