Historisches Museum Saar (Carola Heimann)

The Historical Museum Saar is the museum on the history of the country and the history of the border region.

A large part of its 2700m² is located underground. The permanent exhibition shows the eventful development of the border region since the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 until 1959. In addition, a new temporary exhibition is shown every year. Experience history at the original historical site, with an original preserved Gestapo cell and a sight unique in Germany, the Underground Castle.

  • There are five marked parking spaces for people with disabilities.
  • The building is steplessly accessible.
  • All rooms and facilities that can be used by guests are accessible without steps or via ramps or elevators. Exceptions: The Red Tower and casemates are only accessible via steps.
  • All doors/passages that can be used by guests and are raised are at least 80 cm wide.
  • The cash desk is 75 cm high at its lowest point.
  • The exhibits/objects and the information on the exhibits are mainly visible and legible when seated.
  • There are no guided tours for people with walking disabilities or wheelchair users.
  • There is a public toilet for people with disabilities, which can be accessed from at least one side (at least 80 cm). There are grab rails to the left and right of the toilet.

  • Some stairs have visually contrasting edges on the first and last step. Stairs have a handrail on at least one side.
