Youth Hostel Dortmund (Gaby Paluszak)

The youth hostel is located in the heart of the lively Ruhr metropolis - and yet quietly - just a few minutes' walk from Dortmund's main railway station. Dortmund Youth Hostel has 119 rooms with a total of 313 beds in single to six-bed rooms. In addition to barrier-free access to almost all areas of the hostel, the youth hostel in Dortmund offers three rooms that are specially tailored to the needs of wheelchair users and equipped with appropriate sanitary facilities. Many of the rooms are also equipped with flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi. Bed linen and towels are provided in all rooms and the beds in the rooms with shower/WC are already made up.

  • There is a public parking lot for people with disabilities.
  • All rooms and facilities that can be used by guests are accessible without steps/at ground level or via a ramp or elevator. 
  • Almost all doors/passages that can be used by guests and are raised are at least 90 cm wide. Exceptions: The door to the Phoenix conference room is 80 cm wide.
  • The reception desk is 94 cm high at its lowest point. There is another, equivalent means of communication while seated.
  • There are three barrier-free rooms (203, 305 and 407).
  • The WC in these rooms can be accessed from the left (at least 90 cm). There are folding grab rails to the left and right of the WC.  
  • The washbasin is wheelchair accessible and the mirror can be seen while standing or sitting.
  • Access to the shower is barrier-free. A grab rail and a shower chair are available.
  • There are wheelchair accessible tables in the restaurant, bistro and beer garden (maximum height 80 cm, wheelchair accessible at a height of 67 cm and a depth of 30 cm). 
  • There are two public WCs for people with disabilities, which can be accessed from at least one side (at least 80 cm).   
  • There is a folding grab rail on the side of the toilet.

  • There is no clearly visible alarm.
  • There is no audio induction loop.
  • An outgoing emergency call in the elevator is confirmed audibly.
  • Alternatively stairs are available.
  • In the restaurant and in the Bistro there are tables with bright and glare-free lighting, on which there are no lamps standing or hanging that restrict the field of vision or eye contact.
  • There is a seating area with low background noises (e.g. seating corner, separate room).
  • In rooms 203, 305 and 407 (multi-bedroom) is at least one electrical outlet available near the bed.
  • WiFi is offered.
