Tourist Information of the Hanseatic City Salzwedel

Tourist Information of the Hanseatic City Salzwedel (Manuela Fischer)

Salzwedel - the city of the Hanseatic League and the Baumkuchen - on the way in the city

Salzwedel's town centre is characterised by medieval architecture, half-timbered houses on picturesque cobblestone streets and magnificent brick churches. Impressive town houses, e.g. the birthplace of Jenny Marx, the wife of Karl Marx.

Bear witness to the former wealth of the town. The North German Brick Gothic style has left massive buildings behind. During a walk along the city wall (1850 metres long), parts of the medieval castle complex, gates and towers can be discovered. The old town is dominated by the half-timbered architecture of many centuries. More than 570 buildings provide a closed ensemble.
