City History Museum in Wismar Schabbell

City History Museum in Wismar Schabbell

In the 16th century the Schabbellhaus and the adjacent Gable House in the old town of Wismar formed a common complex. The typical Hanseatic merchant's house at Schweinsbrücke 6 is the older building. It was written before 1364. His brewery at Schweinsbrücke 8, which he had erected in 1569-1571 according to plans by the Utrecht architect Philipp Brandin, served "the city for ornament and honour".

Today, these two buildings serve as a museum of urban history for the Hanseatic city of Wismar. The multifaceted 800-year history of the city is presented in the rooms. The journey through time begins with the medieval foundation of the city and ends with the peaceful revolution in the GDR. Audio and film stations complement the insights into past times.

Visitors can discover the houses and the history themselves on various tours.
