Barrier-free information
All areas relevant for testing meet the quality criteria of the label "Accessibility certified - accessible for people with walking disabilities and partially accessible for wheelchair users".
Some information on accessibility are listed below. For detailed information please see the evaluation report.
- There is one marked parking spaces for people with disabilities (parking space size: 350 cm x 500 cm).
- The building is steplessly accessible via a 4 m long ramp with a gradient of 5.5%.
- All evaluated rooms and facilities available to the guests are accessible at ground level or via a platform lift.
- The platform of the lift is 103 cm x 150 cm.
- All evaluated passageways/doors available to the guests are at least 88 cm wide.
- The cash desk is at its lowest point 88 cm high.
- The exhibits are predominately visible when seated and information is predominately readable when seated.
- There are wheelchair accessible tables available in the café (maximum height 80 cm, wheelchair accessible at a height of 67 cm and a depth of 30 cm).
- Guided tours for people with walking impairments and wheelchair users are offered. A reservation in advance is necessary. Mobile or fixed seats are available, which may be used during the guided tour. The entire route is stepless.
Public toilet for people with disabilities
- The manoeuvring spaces are:
in front of/behind the door, in front of the toilet and the washbasin at least 128 cm x 225 cm;
left and right of the toilet at least 118 cm x 71 cm. - There are grab rails available on the right and left of the toilet. The grab rails can be flipped-up.
- The sink is wheelchair compatible. The mirror can be seen while standing or sitting.
- An alarm trigger is available.

- An outgoing emergency call in the elevator is confirmed audibly.

- Guided tours are offered for people with hearing impairment, but not for deaf people.
- In the café there are tables with bright and glare-free lighting, on which there are no lamps standing or hanging that interfere with the field of vision or eye contact.

- The entrance is visually rich in contrast, but not recognizable by a tactile change of floor covering.
- The elevated areas that can be used by guests are predominantly well lit, i.e. bright and glare-free. The "World of Whales" exhibition is darkened. However, paths and exhibits are marked with strip lighting and information boards are illuminated.
- The signage for orientation is designed in easily legible and high-contrast lettering.
- An outgoing emergency call in the elevator is confirmed audibly.
- Stair treads are not visually rich in contrast. Handrails are provided on at least one side.
- Information about the exhibits is provided in writing and audibly (audio guide). The exhibit signage is predominantly visually rich in contrast.
- Information is not available in Braille or prismatic writing.
