Wendelinus cycling path (Handbiketour)

Running along an old railroad line, the idyllic cycle route not only impresses with its natural beauty, with trees and greenery along the way, but also delights cyclists and hand cyclists with its excellent riding characteristics without gradients. The Wendalinus cycle path is very popular.
Note: Certification was only granted for the flat and easily navigable section from St. Wendel to Oberthal.

Barrier-free information
All areas relevant for testing meet the quality criteria of the label "Accessibility certified - accessible for people with walking disabilities and partially accessible for wheelchair users". The route section between St. Wendel and Oberthal was evaluated here.

Cycle path
- The Wendelinus cycle path runs along a former railroad line. The assessed section of the path between St. Wendel and Oberthal has a length of 8.9 km.
- The path has no sleepers and is 300 cm wide throughout. The distance between bollards is 150 cm.
- The manoeuvring space between barriers is 250 cm x 250 cm.
- The surface consists of asphalt and is easy to drive on. The path section is level throughout.
- No road crossings are necessary.
- The trail section is also designated for hikers, skaters etc. or other user groups.
- There are rest areas along the trail.
- The trail is clearly, uniformly and continuously signposted.
Parking / public transport
- There are marked parking spaces for people with disabilities in St. Wendel and Oberthal.
- There are barriers on the way from the parking lot to the start of the path in St. Wendel. The manoeuvring space between the barriers is 150 cm x 150 cm.
- The train station in St. Wendel is approx. 200 m from the starting point of the tour.
- There are numerous bus stops along the route.
Public WCs and restaurants along the route
- There are public WCs in the town center of St. Wendel.
- There are several catering facilities located directly along the route, e.g. the "Radsteig 1". It is steplessly accessible and has a large outdoor area (terrace). The Café-Bäckerei Gillen is located in St. Wendel close to the cycle path (Tholeyer Str. 3b). A barrier-free WC is available here during opening hours.
Public WC for people with disabilities in Oberthal at the cemetery
- The toilet door can be opened with a Euro key.
- The manoeuvring spaces are:
in front of the washbasin and WC 150 cm x 150 cm;
to the left of the WC 90 cm x 70 cm; to the right of the WC 75 cm x 70 cm. - There are grab rails to the left and right of the WC. Both grab rails can be folded up.
- The washbasin is wheelchair compatible and the mirror can be seen while sitting or standing.
- There is a cord as an alarm trigger.
