Technical Museum "Gesenkschmiede"

Drop Forge Technical Museum

Originally built as a sawmill between 1830 and 1840 and equipped with two waterwheels, the building was taken over by a forging company (Wahl company), which had been located in the town since 1842, and converted into a drop forge in 1918.

The company was placed under monumental protection in 1988. Today the former drop forge is a technical monument and museum. We show you the oldest plank drop hammers in Germany with a dead weight of over 16 tons and a height of over 4 m. You can follow the development of drop forgings including the tool production and you can see numerous historical machines and hand tools.
