atz Archäotechnisches Zentrum Welzow e. V. (Therés Wurzler)

Hands-on archaeology: The Förderverein Archäotechnisches Zentrum (atz) Welzow e. V. is an extracurricular educational institution offering an active program focused on archaeology and history. Where other museums display artifacts in glass cases, the atz brings ancient history to life for families, adult groups, and school classes through hands-on activities.

The center's own exhibition displays objects on the theme of “Man - Wood - Archaeology” from 300,000 years of human history. In the adjoining open spaces, visitors can discover reconstructed originals from the Middle Ages found in the Welzow-Süd open-cast mine. The adjacent herb and period garden is home to food from 8,000 years of cultural history.

As an extracurricular educational institution, the atz organizes themed project days for school classes and children's facilities. A special feature is the opportunity to spend the night in teepees right next to the garden and the “Stone Age sheep.” Teachers and educators can put together individually tailored programs for their children from the many creative and active offerings for the project day. At the atz, you can learn history through play.
