Castle Friedenstein Gotha - Ducal Museum (Boris Hajdukovic)

The Ducal Museum was constructed to the south of the castle in 1879 as a prestigious home for its wide variety of collections. The museum showcases important works of art from ancient times right through to the modern era, including collections of Egyptian artefacts, old German masterpieces (such as the “Gothaer Liebespaar” (Gotha Lovers) painting and significant works by Lucas Cranach the Elder and the Younger), a Dutch collection, sculptures by Jean-Antoine Houdon and porcelain from Meißen, Thuringia and Asia. It also hosts regular special exhibitions.

  • There are two parking spaces for people with disabilities.
  • The bus stop Herzogliches Museum is 100 meters away. 
  • The building is accessible via a side entrance at ground level. A call system for the service staff is available at the outside door.
  • All rooms and facilities that can be used by guests are accessible without steps/at ground level or via a ramp, a stair platform lift or an elevator. 
  • All doors/passages and paths that can be used by guests are at least 80 cm wide.
  • Exhibits and information are mainly visible from a seated position.
  • Seating is available.
  • There is a public toilet for people with disabilities, which can be accessed from both sides (at least 80 cm). There are folding grab rails on the left and right.   
  • Guided tours are offered for people with walking disabilities and wheelchair users. Advance booking is necessary. 
  • Mobile or fixed seating is available for people with walking disabilities, which can be used during the tour.

  • Guided tours for people with hearing impairment are offered with a WT 808 R with 16-channel PLL receiver. Guided tours for deaf people are not offered.
