Stadtmuseum Simeonstift Trier

(Thomas Riehle)

The Trier City Museum is located in the Romanesque Simeonstift, right next to the Porta Nigra. The permanent exhibition contains art and cultural treasures from the Middle Ages to the 21st century, the foundation of which came from significant donations by well-known citizens of Trier. The collection areas, which are divided into paintings, sculptures, arts and crafts, Coptic textiles, furniture and small East Asian sculptures, are correspondingly diverse. The approximately 900 objects can be seen on 2000 m² of exhibition space. Models, interactive areas and a broad multimedia offering of around 40 media presentations in the form of films, image sequences and audio stations complement the visit.

The city museum sees itself as a citizen museum - a place of cultural education for all. To this end, barriers that make access to the museum difficult are being removed, and programs and projects are being further developed that appeal to as many people as possible.
