Friedenstein Foundation Gotha - Castle Museum

Castle Friedenstein Gotha - Castle Museum (Philipp Hort)

After a construction period lasting just eleven years, this impressive early Baroque castle complex was completed in 1654. Its construction was commissioned by Duke Ernest I of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg.

Friedenstein Castle is currently home to the Castle Museum and its “Kunstkammer” chamber and the Baroque Ekhof Theatre, which can be accessed via a mobile ramp. Barrier-free access to the Historical Museum and the “Animals in the Tower” exhibition is not yet available.
