Youth Hostel Johannesburg (Simon Kesting)

Opened in 2011, the maritime-designed house convinces with a functional, accessible facility. The house in the center of Papenburg has 134 beds in modern equipped rooms with shower and toilet. The friendly rooms can be booked as single, double, four-bed or six-bed rooms. The outdoor area offers children, teenagers and adults everything their heart desires - from a soccer field to a coordination course. Sustenance is also provided: There is a cafeteria, a bistro and an outdoor terrace. Special dietary requirements and food options are available by arrangement.

  • There are four parking spaces for people with disabilities.
  • All rooms and facilities that can be used by guests and are raised are accessible without steps/at ground level or via an elevator. 
  • All doors/passages that can be used by guests and are raised are at least 88 cm wide.
  • The reception counter is 115 cm high and there is an equivalent alternative sitting position.
  • There are six barrier-free rooms.
  • There is a height-adjustable care bed.
  • The WC in the room can be accessed from both sides. There are folding grab rails on both sides. 
  • The washbasin is wheelchair compatible and the mirror is visible when standing or sitting.
  • Access to the shower is barrier-free. A grab rail and a shower chair are available.
  • There are tables that are max. 80 cm high and wheelchair compatible at a height of 67 cm and a depth of 30 cm.
  • There is a public toilet for people with disabilities, which can be accessed from both sides. There are folding grab rails on both sides.  
  • The surface quality of the outdoor paths is low-vibration and easy to walk and drive on.
