Waterhuus Borkum (Joke Pouliart)

The Waterhuus and the former water tower together form the overall ensemble "Watermuseum". In the Waterhuus there are further exhibition areas, a seminar room and a water laboratory. In the water tower, an exhibition on six levels provides insights into the history of the tower, spa tourism and drinking water production.

  • There are two parking spaces for people with disabilities.
  • Access into the building is step-free (max. 2 cm threshold). 
  • All rooms and facilities that can be used and raised for the guest are accessible without steps. Door thresholds are max. 1 cm high. 
  • Passages and doors are at least 89 cm wide. 
  • The counter/cash register is 110 cm high at the lowest point. 
  • The exhibits are predominantly visible, perceptible or recognisable while seated. 
  • The information on the exhibits is predominantly legible while seated.
  • The stations/exhibits are visible, perceptible or recognisable while seated. 
  • There is the possibility of a video transmission of the water tower tour into the exhibition space, so that visitors who cannot walk stairs in the water tower can still experience the water tower. 
  • There is a public toilet for people with disabilities, which is accessible from both sides (at least 80 cm). The grab rails on the toilet can be folded up.

  • In the event of an acoustic alarm, there is also a clearly visible flashing and strobe signal. 
  • There is the possibility of a video transmission of the water tower tour into the exhibition room, so that visitors who cannot walk stairs in the water tower can still experience the water tower. 
  • Information that serves orientation and consists of words is available in written form.
  • Information about the exhibits is provided in writing or in photorealistic representations.
