Tourist Information Kalbe (Milde)

Kalbe - city of a hundred bridges

Our unified municipality of Kalbe (Milde) is located in the heart of the beautiful Altmark and consists of our town Kalbe (Milde) and 37 villages. The resort town of Kalbe (Milde) and its surroundings is now over 1000 years old and invites you to a comfortable time out.

Fields and forests draw a beautiful landscape. Kalbe (Milde) is literally embraced by the river Milde and gives the town the additional title: "town of 100 bridges". Let yourself be enchanted by half-timbered houses and inspired by idyllic villages. Fieldstone churches await visitors. The village churches from Engersen and Wiebke join the "Romanesque Road".

In Vienau begins a significant nature trail through the European bird sanctuary "Mildeniederung". For technology fans there is an old steam mill in Karritz. In Zierau and in Jeetze windmills can be visited. You can experience the old Germanic life in connection with the current time in our open-air museum of the "Langobardenwerkstatt" in Zethlingen.

Fishing, hiking and cycling free you from the stress of everyday life and allow you to relax. The Milde-Biese-Aland-Tour leads almost along the front door. As an enthusiastic cyclist you have the possibility to cross the beautiful Altmark via this tour. The Milde-Biese-Aland-Tour borders on the regional cycle path Altmarkrundkurs and on the supra-regional Elberadweg.

Various museums want to be visited. Besides the fire department museum and the school museum, our visitors are always fascinated by the castle and local history museum. The moated castle grounds in the middle of the town fascinate with the Palas, the Hausmannsturm, old cellar vaults and the "Altes Wachhaus" (oldest building in the town in 1584). Here you will find the impressive history of the unified municipality, personalities and various exhibitions. The Hausmannsturm with a height of 19 meters and 100 steps rewards with an outstanding view over Kalbe and its surroundings.

Not only the spa park with its water treading place and the old water mill, but also the largest baroque box tree garden of the Altmark invites you to relax. In our cafés you can spend comfortable hours. Our open-air swimming pool offers cooling and a lot of fun during the hot days.  Carriage rides, horseback rides or city tours can be booked.

Many events such as the duck race, castle festival, castle Christmas, Easter fire, Higlandgames, 24-hour Simson race and much more attract many visitors.

We are looking forward to seeing you! Let our tourist information advise you.
