Tourist Information Seehausen (Altmark) (Manuela Fischer)

No matter which direction you approach the Hanseatic town of Seehausen (Altmark) from, the towers of St. Peter's will greet you for miles before you arrive in the centre of the Hanseatic town of Seehausen (Altmark). Don't miss the chance to take a closer look at St Peter's Church. Originally built in the 13th century as a single-nave basilica, it was later converted into a three-nave, late Gothic hall church.

As you wander through our region, be sure to take a look at the countless village churches, each of which is a special feature in its own right, as are many old farmsteads and walls. Bricks, field stones, half-timbering ... masterfully combined in ever-changing forms.

The former inner-German border, which today connects rather than divides as a green belt, has been transformed from a death strip into a lifeline. It is home to many rare species and still bears witness to a history that should not be forgotten. The Stresow village memorial and the border tower near Bömenzien are reminders of this.
