"WasserWissensWerk"

"WasserWissensWerk" (©Wasserzweckverband im Landkreis Birkenfeld)

The WasserWissensWerk is the visitor and information centre on the subject of drinking water and is located directly at the Steinbachtalsperre near Kempfeld.  In the interactive exhibition, visitors can take a tour and learn everything they need to know about water extraction and treatment, water distribution in the region and how our limited and valuable resource is worth protecting.

Those who wish can set out on an exciting journey through the exhibition alone or in groups using exploration sheets in the form of a rally. In the integrated WaterLab, the focus is on the fun of trying things out. Children, but also adults, can carry out water experiments independently with experiment boxes on the topic of "Properties of Water". The water playground located at the WasserWissensWerk offers a welcome change when dealing with the topic of water.

From the WasserWissensWerk, you can also set out on the 13 km long dream hiking trail "Köhlerpfad am Steinbach" (charcoal burners' path at the Steinbach stream), which leads around the Steinbach dam.

WasserWissensHike

On the approximately 1.5 km circular route from the WasserWissensWerk via the viewing platform and the

dam road, five audio stations with information boards provide valuable insights into the Steinbachtalsperre dam. The easy to moderately difficult hike along the dam wall shows us the topic of climate change on site and is an opportunity to learn more about the regional effects.
