Church St. Georgen Wismar

Church St. Georgen

The Church of St. George is one of the three large main churches of Wismar and an outstanding architectural monument of North German Brick Gothic. Once it was the place of worship for craftsmen and tradesmen. The origins of St.-Georgen lie in the 13th century.

The church, heavily damaged during the war and later exposed to decay, has been rebuilt since 1990 with the support of the Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz. The viewing platform on St. Georgen offers a new and impressive view of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town and the Old Harbour and can be reached by lift.

Concerts take place regularly in the church. (Festspiele MV, NDR-Sinfonieorchester und die Klassikertage Wismar)
