Finsterau Open-Air Museum (Martine Ernst)

In the open-air museum Finsterau, visitors can immerse themselves in the living world of the Bavarian Forest over a hundred years ago and experience culture up close.

The Finsterau Open-Air Museum is located just before the border with the Czech Republic. Located right next to the Bavarian Forest National Park, this special kind of museum lets its visitors experience the past and culture of the border region up close. The farms in the open-air museum were carefully dismantled stone by stone and rebuilt in Finsterau. This preserves not only the special architecture, but also old crafts, customs and the life of the rural population in the barren countryside of the Bavarian Forest. With special school class programs, cooking and herbal courses as well as interesting themed tours, there is something for everyone to explore the open-air museum. Markets and other events round out the colorful program throughout the year at the open-air museum. The extensive grounds are accessible without steps. The museum restaurant d'Ehrn and the Café Heimat invite visitors to linger in the special ambience.

There are two parking spaces for people with disabilities. OR
There are no parking spaces for people with disabilities, but an alternative is available (e.g., a drop-off area for getting in and out, etc.).
The “Freilichtmuseum” bus stop is located 5 meters away.
The grounds are accessible without steps.
Passageways and doors are at least 80 cm wide.
Almost all rooms and facilities accessible to guests are step-free. Exceptions: Some buildings in the outdoor area are accessible only via a threshold ranging from 5 cm to 23 cm in height.
The ticket counter is 110 cm high at its lowest point. An alternative, equivalent means of communication while seated is available.
Seating is available in the outdoor area.
Most of the exhibits can be viewed while seated.
Information about the exhibits is mostly readable while seated.
The Café Heimat features wheelchair compatible tables (maximum height 80 cm; wheelchair access at a height of 67 cm and a depth of 30 cm).
A public restroom for people with disabilities is available; it is partially accessible from the side (45 cm). A fold-down grab bar is provided.
