Colliery "Nachtigall"

Colliery "Nachtigall" (Ludger Staudinger )

The colliery "Nachtigall" experienced its heyday around 1850 as one of the first underground collieries in the region. In its exhibition, the "LWL Industrial Museum" shows how difficult the journey into the depth was. Highlight of the visit is a guided tour through the "Nachtigall" gallery. Equipped with helmets, the guests experience a real coal seam in the low corridors of the visitor mine. In front of the entrance, a reconstructed pit shows small-scale mining in the "Ruhr" valley after 1945. On board of a wooden sailing ship in original size, the history of shipbuilding and coal shipping on the "Ruhr" comes to life.
