The Albtrauf escarpment in the Swabian Jura is unparalleled in Europe. We hike on the Albsteig Trail, which mostly follows the Albtrauf escarpment with a drop of up to 300 metres.

The Albsteig Trail is the oldest hiking trail in the Swabian Jura. We discover the region's scenic beauty on many narrow paths. Nevertheless, the Albsteig Trail is physically demanding and difficult throughout. So hikers have a decision to make: athletic hikers can do the Albsteig Trail in 15 stages; leisurely hikers can do it in 25. The Albsteig Trail is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience, one highlight being the breathtaking view of Hohenzollern Castle. The vantage point on the Zeller Horn mountain is one of the most beautiful spots in Germany. We hike past several other castles, caves and bizarre rock formations and discover a very special highlight: the Urach Waterfall on the outskirts of Bad Urach. And we are rewarded time and time again with fantastic views of the hilly landscape around Stuttgart.

TIP: Hohenneuffen Castle

Manuel Andrack, editor, presenter, author and hiking blogger:

"Hohenneuffen Castle is one of the most outstanding castles on the Albsteig Trail. Visitors can have a look around the expansive castle grounds for free and quench their thirst with a drink in the restaurant."
