Youth Hostel Prora

The DJH Youth Hostel Prora on Rügen is located directly on the beach of Germany's largest island. Providing 424 beds in 96 rooms, it is the largest youth hostel in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In addition, up to 1,000 outdoor fans find a place for their tent on the adjacent camping site. Sports facilities and playgrounds included. Families, school classes and groups feel at home and take advantage of the wide range of services offered by the certified youth hostel. The youth hostel has 32 wheelchair spaces in 16 rooms. A lift is available.

  • There are five parking spaces available for people with disabilities.
  • All rooms and facilities that can be used by guests are step-free/at ground level or accessible via an elevator.
  • All doors/passages that can be used by guests are at least 90 cm wide.
  • The reception desk is 118 cm high. There is another, equivalent communication option available while seated.
  • There is one accessible room available. A height-adjustable nursing bed is available on request.
  • The toilet in the room is accessible from one side (at least 80 cm). There is a foldable grab rail on the accessible side of the toilet.
  • The sink is wheelchair compatible and the mirror is also visible while seated.
  • Access to the shower is threshold-free. A grab rail and a shower chair are available.
  • The dining room and cafeteria have tables that are max. 80 cm high and wheelchair compatible at a height of 67 cm and a depth of 30 cm.
  • There are three public toilets for people with disabilities, which are accessible from at least one side (at least 80 cm). There are folding grab rails to the left and right of the toilet.

  • In the event of an audible alarm, no visually perceptible flashing light or flashing signal appears.
  • There is no audio induction loop.
  • An outgoing emergency call is confirmed audibly in the elevators. Alternatively, stairs are available.
  • In the cafeteria and dining room there are tables with bright and glare-free lighting, on which there are no lamps standing or hanging that restrict the field of vision or eye contact. Seating areas with low background noises are available.
  • WIFI access and a fax machine are available for communication.
  • In the evaluated bedrooms, there is at least one freely available electrical outlet near the bed.

  • The entrance area is designed with high visual contrast.
  • The signage (for orientation) is designed in easily legible, high-contrast font.
  • All elevated areas accessible to guests are brightly lit without glare.
  • An outgoing emergency call in the elevator is confirmed acoustically. The stopping position is announced in the elevator by voice.
  • Some stairs have visually contrasting edges on the first and last steps.
