Embedded in a stunning landscape in the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park on the edge of Hainich National Park, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, you will find the “Forest Life Camp” on the Harsberg hill near the village of Lauterbach. The “Forest Life Camp” Youth Hostel in Lauterbach offers its guests 145 beds in rooms containing two to eight beds. All rooms feature a shower and toilet. People with disabilities are more than welcome at our youth hostel, which is home to three wheelchair-accessible rooms. Nearly all areas of the youth hostel offer barrier-free access. Please ask us directly about the options available for disability-friendly or disabled-accessible rooms and other services for your stay.

Some information on accessibility are listed below. For detailed information please see the evaluation report.

  • There are two unmarked parking spaces for people with disabilities (parking space size: 350 cm x 500 cm).
  • The path from the car park to the entrance main house is 15 m long. It has a maximum longitudinal gradient of 6 % over a distance of 1 m.
  • The path to Tipi-Camp and Tree House Camp is not easy to walk and drive on and has a maximum longitudinal gradient of 8 % over a distance of 20 m .
  • The building/object are steplessly accessible via side entrances or ramps.
  • The ramp at the side entrance (main building) to the dining room and room 10 has a maximum gradient of 5 % and a total length of 12 m (intermediate landings are not available).
  • The ramp to the house NAKUNDU has a maximum gradient of 5 % and a total length of 12 m (intermediate landings are not available).
  • The ramp to the Tree House Camp has a maximum gradient of 4 % and a total length of 4 m.
  • All evaluated passageways/doors available to the guests are at least 88 cm wide.
  • The reception desk is at its lowest point 115 cm high. There is another, equivalent communication possibility while in a sitting position.
  • There are wheelchair accessible tables available in the dining room (maximum height 80 cm, wheelchair accessible at a height of 67 cm and a depth of 30 cm).
  • Guided tours for people with walking impairments and wheelchair users are offered on request. A reservation in advance is necessary.

Room 10 (multi-bed room, main house)

  • The manoeuvring spaces in front of essential stationary furnishings (e.g. wardrobe) right of the beds are at least 150 cm x 150 cm (on the left are the beds on the wall).
  • The bed is 45 cm high.

  • The manoeuvring spaces in the bathroom are:
    in front of the toilet 150 cm x 150 cm; in front of the washbasin 143 cm x 176 cm;

  • There are grab rails available on the right and left of the toilet. The grab rails can be flipped-up.

  • There is no alarm.
  • There is no audio induction loop system.
  • Room 10 main house, room 20 house NAKUNDU (multi-bed room) is no electrical outlet available near the bed.
  • In the dining room there are tables with bright and glare-free lighting, on which there are no lamps standing or hanging that interfere with the field of vision or eye contact.
  • There is a seating area with low background noises (e.g. corner seating, separate room).
  • Guided tours are offered for people with hearing impairment, but not for deaf people. A reservation in advance is not necessary. 
  • The ringing or knocking on the door is not indicated by a flashing signal which can be detected in all rooms.
  • WiFi is offered.
