Youth Hostel Thale (Claudia Kepke)

With its fantastic location in the mystical Bode Gorge, the youth hostel offers a fantastic starting point for exploring the Bode Valley. The wild and romantic valley with its unspoilt forests, rugged rocks and blooming mountain meadows will enchant you! Look forward to an eventful stay in this legendary Harz region, where you will encounter witches, devils and other mythical creatures at every turn.

Families also feel completely comfortable in our family-friendly house. The little ones quickly make friends on our beautiful site by the river. And eventful days await school classes with us! Here you can walk "On the trail of myths and legends" or travel "Through the Harz Mountains with a witch's broom".

In our house you can expect leisure rooms, table tennis room, children's playroom, cafeteria and terrace. (excerpt from the website)

  • There is a public parking space for people with disabilities, it is not signposted (parking space size 350 cm x 500 cm).
  • The path from the car park to the entrance is 40 m long. 
  • The building (main entrance) is accessible via a 1 m long ramp with a 26% longitudinal gradient.
  • The reception counter is 97 cm at the lowest point. There is an equivalent communication possibility in a sitting position.
  • The rooms that can be used by the guest can be reached as follows:
    - Main building: reception, cafeteria/club room and conference room "Bodetal" on the ground floor (at ground level)
    - Room 109 with sanitary room, storey sanitary room and dining room on the second floor (only accessible via stairs);
    - Outbuilding (over 10 cm high curbstone): access to the sports room via a 5 cm high step.
  • In public areas doors and passageways are at least 80 cm wide.
    exceptions: room door with 75 cm and toilet door in room with 68 cm.
  • In the cafeteria/club room there are wheelchair accessible tables, in the dining room there are none.
  • The playground is not wheelchair accessible and the adventure areas cannot be accessed from side paths. There is no play equipment that is accessible or usable by wheelchair users.

Room 109 with sanitary room

  • The manoeuvring spaces in the sleeping area are:
    at least 200 cm x 140 cm in front of essential immobile furnishings;
    200 cm x 120 cm to the left of the bed, on the right the bed stands next to the wall.
  • There is no bathroom designed for people with disabilities. The door is 68 cm wide and opens inwards.

Storey sanitary room

  • There is no toilet designed for people with disabilities. The door is 80 cm wide and opens inwards.
  • The manoeuvring spaces to the left and right of the toilet are 25 cm x 55 cm, in front of the toilet 95 cm x 70 cm.
  • The 110 cm x 70 cm shower tray is 18 cm high. There are no grab handles and no shower chair.
  • The washbasin has limited wheelchair access, the mirror can be seen while standing and sitting.

  • In the dining room and in the cafeteria/club room there are tables with bright and glare-free lighting, where there are no lamps standing or hanging.
  • There are no seating areas with low background noises.
  • There is WiFi access. 
  • There is no electrical outlet available near the bed.

  • The entrance area is visually rich in contrast, but cannot be recognized by a tactile change of floor covering.
  • Glass doors have no safety markings. 
  • Rooms and corridors are usually brightly lit. 
  • Information is not available in Braille or prismatic writing.
  • In outdoor areas, the sidewalk boundary is partially tactile. There are no floor indicators.
  • Signs are designed in easily legible, visually contrasting font. They are not tactilely detectable.
