German Port Museum - Location "Schuppen 50A"

German Port Museum - Location "Schuppen 50A" (SINJE HASHEIDER)

Hamburg is getting a new museum in the next few years: the German Port Museum will look out from the Port of Hamburg to the world and focus on the port as an important hub of economic development. The new museum will be at home at two locations. A first location is the former "Hafenmuseum Hamburg" in the Hansahafen at the so-called 50er Schuppen - an authentic place with historical charm.

Housed in the southern part of the Schuppen 50A, the show depot assembles some 10,000 objects on the topics of port work, cargo handling, shipbuilding and revier shipping on an area of around 2,500 square meters. A separate section of the exhibition is devoted to the object that changed much of everyday port life: the container. Some of the first large-scale equipment from the early days can be marveled at in the open-air exhibition area: gantry cranes, grabs for bulk cargo handling, and historic wagons of the port railroad. The historic four-masted barque PEKING has also found a temporary berth here (not evaluated).
