Speicherstadt Museum Hamburg

Situated in the unusual setting of an old warehouse, the Speicherstadt Museum in Hamburg houses typical goods and equipment from the storage and trading companies that used to operate in the city's warehouse district.

Surrounded by grippers, coffee sacks, lifters and more, visitors to this warehouse dating back over 100 years are given an insight into how the warehouse keepers used to store, sample and refine imported goods like coffee, cocoa and rubber. Other focal points include the tea and coffee trade that ran through the Speicherstadt and local architectural history, which is illustrated by numerous old photos and plans.

Hamburg's Speicherstadt by the harbour is the world's largest complex of historical warehouses. Covering the area between the Baumwall underground station and the Oberhafen district, it was placed under monumental protection in 1991 along with the adjacent Kontorhaus district. The Speicherstadt Museum is an interactive, hands-on experience that is fun for the whole family. Children are even in their element, with a kids' rally and scavenger hunt on the agenda. Well-known crime authors often read from their novels at events here and coffee and tea tasting sessions are a regular occurrence. Opening times: Summer: Monday to Friday 10 am–5 pm, Saturday and Sunday 10 am–6 pm, Winter: Tuesday to Sunday 10 am–5 pm
