Frieder Burda Museum Baden-Baden

The Frieder Burda Museum, a stunning building flooded with light, was designed by architect Richard Meier on the famous Lichtentaler Allee. Countless works of modern and contemporary art make up the museum's collection.

The museum is a work of art in its own right thanks to its clear structure and the use of light and glass. In fact, it was honoured with the "New York Chapter Design Award", an American architecture award, in New York. And the exhibitions on show at this relatively new museum are just as impressive as the architecture. Displays showcase works by well-known artists from the Classical Modernism movement alongside masterpieces from the private collection of art collector Frieder Burda.

With its roots firmly in Expressionism, the collection now encompasses around 1,000 paintings, sculptures and works of art on paper. The museum is also home to a fascinating collection of eight examples of Picasso's late work. A fascination with colour and the emotional expressive qualities of painting were at the centre of collector Frieder Burda's interest in art. This view has given rise to a collection with a personal touch, bringing together pioneering approaches to painting in the 20th and 21st centuries. Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday: 10 am–6 pm
