The Nature Park Spessart in the north-west of Bavaria is one of the largest and finest areas of deciduous forest in Germany. The upland region is surrounded by the picturesque towns and magnificent castles of the Main Valley.

The Spessart Hills are famed for their ancient beech and oak forests, which cover large parts of the gently rolling hills in the upland area, occasionally giving way to clearings and idyllic brook and river valleys. Whilst robbers and poachers used to occupy the area, visitors are now invited to explore nature on hiking trails spanning 4,000 kilometres, three quality-certified long-distance footpaths and an unparalleled network of European cultural routes running through the region. Cyclists will be in their element on the River Main Cycle Route and the routes within the Bikewald Spessart park. The informative facilities arranged by the nature park and cultural highlights such as the moated Mespelbrunn Castle are not to be missed.
