Museum of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany Bonn

This attraction on Bonn's Museum Mile brings the history of Germany since 1945 to life. Attracting 850,000 visitors every year, it is one of the most popular museums in the whole of Germany.

The Museum of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany on Bonn's Willy-Brandt-Allee is home to an impressive interactive permanent exhibition on the history of (East and West) Germany from 1945 to the present day. There are some 7,000 original exhibits to check out here, including the Chancellor's train carriage, a vintage cinema from the 1950s, parts of the Berlin Wall, Honecker's arrest warrant and the first Green Card for a foreign IT specialist.

Historical video and audio recordings and no end of media points help bring this period of German history to life. Visitors will also find live displays and interviews with people who were there at the time along the way. Alongside the permanent exhibition, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions in the Exhibition Hall, in the Foyer and in the U-Bahn Gallery. Entrance to the museum is free of charge for all visitors. Opening times: Tuesday to Friday: 9 am–7 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 10 am–6 pm
