There's no better phrase to sum up the Allgäu region than "lush green". Its stunning landscape is filled with water and meadows. It only takes a quick look at the magnificent panoramic view of the Alps to realise why the ADFC awarded this route four stars.

The diverse route passes through the former kingdom of Ludwig II, the fairytale king and royal behind Neuschwanstein Castle, an early highlight of this tour. The castle ruins of Falkenberg and Eisenberg may not be so well known but that just makes them all the more mysterious. It's well worth stopping in Füssen and Kempten, the largest town in the Allgäu region and the hub of the Allgäu Cycle Loop. There are no fewer than nine versions of this route! And Sebastian Kneipp is an ever-present figure as the first person to discover the healing power of the mountain water and the inventor of the famous form of hydrotherapy named after him.
