"Round Corner" Stasi Museum Leipzig

Since 1990, visitors to the memorial site and museum have been able to learn about contemporary history in the poignant setting of the former Ministry for State Security (Stasi) HQ.

Forged stamps, false beards, special cameras and tools for secretly opening post are amongst the many fascinating items on display at the Stasi Museum on Dittrichring in Leipzig. The memorial site is located in the perfectly preserved rooms of what was once the state security headquarters for the district. For more than 40 years, the building on the round corner was a tool of oppression in East Germany. The permanent exhibition, called "Stasi – Power and Banality", looks back on the structure and methods of East Germany's infamous secret service.

One of the high points of the Peaceful Revolution saw the Leipzig Stasi HQ occupied by "Monday demonstrators" on 4 December 1989. Having been largely created during the Peaceful Revolution of 1990, the exhibition focuses on the power of the people in effecting change. Visitors can see and feel the past at this unique museum. Opening times: Every day 10 am–6 pm
